Author’s Note: This storyline stems from my wish to write some kind of horror/thriller plot. Listening to Two Steps From Hell’s Horror and Thriller albums didn’t help any.

The teeth that sink into his arm tear into muscles and sinews, almost biting down to the bone, breaking it in several places. Jared's shock numbs the pain but it also catches his breath, making it hard, if not impossible, to breath properly. The grey and white fur is matted with blood, blood of Jared's friends. The sudden realization of the current situation and it's outcome, propels him to act. While pulling on thick fur to get the wolf off him, Jared reaches behind him searching for anything that can be used as a weapon of some kind.

Just as his fingers brush over a branch behind him, closing around it, a brownish grey wolf breaks through the bushes to the side and attacks the wolf currently chewing on Jared's arm. Both of them, the wolf and Jared are surprised by the turn of affairs, but when the newcomer darts at him again, the grey wolf bares its teeth, snarling intimidatingly at his opponent.

Growling fills the chilly night air. At first the two fighters snap at each others legs and sides but then they jump at each other, teeth burying into fur, tearing away junks of hair and flesh. Their eyes shine brightly in the moonlight, the anger and ferocity burning in them and making them look like the wild beasts they are. As the brownish wolf twists away from a snap at his back, it turns around and goes for the other wolf's throat. The white teeth clamp around the vulnerable spot and bite down. With a shake of it's large head the darker wolf tears away, taking flesh and fur with it and leaving a gaping wound from which rich dark red blood runs in streams down the silvery fur.

Jared crawls away from the scene, his eyes on the display before him. His injured arm stings awfully and his heart beats so hard it's painful. His attacker sinks down, his breathing getting shallower by the second. The other wolf watches the death ready to pounce again, tension in his body making him almost tremble.

Once the last breath has left the body, the brown grey face swiffels to Jared. The eyes have a greenish yellow sheen to them. They are assessing the human as the wolf slowly and carefully creeps closer. It sniffs the air as if taking in Jared's scent. Something makes it stop its approach. The wolf stares at him and Jared almost thinks he can make out confusion and a little fear in the lupine eyes.

He tries to get up, but his movement has the wolf growl threateningly, his ears pressed flat against his skull. White fangs and teeth are bared in a gesture to intimidate the human. There is blood and flesh sticking to the fur and claws of the beast, a reminder of the kill that has just taken place.

Once more it sniffs the air, as if the assure itself of the scent it's cataloguing. A flash of annoyance in the glowing eyes is all the warning Jared gets before the wolf dashes off through the bushes.

Making sure that he's alone, Jared gets carefully up and then starts his way back to the cabin as fast as he can. He's definitely not waiting around for the other wolves to show up.
