Jared is returning from his run around the park when he notices him for the first time. It's a surprise but he doesn't think much of it. Jensen, the newest barista of the coffee shop he goes to every morning on his way to work, is standing across his apartment building looking up and down the street as if he's searching for something. When he sees Jared he seems to freeze, staring fixedly at his face. Jared thinks that the poor guy looks as lost out here as he does behind the counter and decides to cheer him up. He waves at him and smiles encouragingly. Nothing to it really.

The next time he crosses paths with the guy outside the coffee shop he's perusing the selection at the supermarket just around the corner of Jared's apartment building. He stares at the boxes, bags and cans in confusion and Jared even sees him sniffing at one. It has to be the weirdest behavior he's ever seen in the store. After watching him some more, Jared decides to say hello. He knows the guy, a little at least, and therefore it's rude to stare and not say anything.

Pushing his cart over to the wall of breakfast cereals he stops. "Hi!"

The box of Captain Crunch is dropped and the guy turns around, looking at Jared as if he was the Antichrist dropping by for a short visit.

"Jensen, right?" At this the other nods and picks up the dropped box, putting it back at the shelf. There's no further reply coming to Jared's question and the staring at each other is starting to get strange. "Um, you live close here?"

This is unlikely, Jared knows that. The rent in this part of the town is much too high for someone with the salary Jensen probably receives. But, he wants to talk about something to make the best of the situation they find themselves in. Small talk is rather hard with this guy though. Most people know the niceties of inane talk. You answer talk about things that no-one's really interested in. But Jensen's answer to everything seems to be staring. Silently.

"You don't live around here?" Finally he gets a reaction. Shaking his head, the other at last answers the question. But the answer has Jared asking for even more clarification. "So, you are visiting someone around here?"

"No." A verbal reply this time. Next there would even be a whole sentence.

"Funny, that we meet here then." At this Jared once more smiles all friendly at the guy. the reaction he gets is a curt nod and then Jensen turns around and walks off, just disappears around the corner of the row of shelves.

Jared continues his shopping, but he doesn't find the barista anywhere. Maybe he already went home. Or maybe he's so shy he can't talk to other. Jared's addressing him so openly must have shocked him.

He almost forgets about the strange encounter but then another week later he catches sight of Jensen across Jared's office building. One moment he's standing on the sidewalk people walking by him left and right, staring at the entrance to the tall building. The next second he's gone. It happens so fast that Jared can't help himself but rub his eyes, making sure he isn't dreaming.

Over the next couple of weeks he's sure he makes the other out from the corner of his eye a couple of times. Each time in another location. It's starting to get to him. Jared really doesn't like being stalked by some coffee guy who can't even talk two words in a row without consulting a manual or script. When he finds him hanging around at the park where Jared and Megan are talking a walk, he loses it. Once again Jensen disappears before Jared can confront him, but next day in the morning he heads out for the coffee shop, raring to give the creep a piece of his mind.
