Jensen smells her change coming on. The young female that smells a little bit like his mate, most probably one of his pack, is starting to smell more and more like a wolf. With every day that passes her scent changes a little bit more and soon she will have to change. Watching from his hideout in the bushes, Jensen watches her and his mate jogging, running around the park that is close to their home.
Ever since the confrontation at the coffee shop, Jensen has been wondering what to do now. His boss had told him that he couldn't continue working at the coffee shop, that his behavior had been unacceptable and it would be bad for the shop's business if they kept him on.
Losing the job had proven to be no great loss in the end, since Jared hadn't been to the shop since his confronting Jensen. Now he works in a small store across the street of Jared's office building. He gets to watch the comings and goings of everyone through the shop window. The work is boring and Jensen feels like suffocating the longer he stays in the city but he gets to see Jared at least twice a day.
He's extra careful that the other doesn't notice him. Jeff had explained to him that human's are very protective of their privacy. The word had been kind of difficult to grasp for Jensen. Him being a wolf that had grown up in a pack where everything was shared and done as a group.
Apparently humans are not so much for teamwork. They are solitary even in their pursuit of a partner, they never stop being egoistic. It is strange for Jensen to watch the interactions between them, not really understanding the importance of personal property and possessions. True, he can relate to the importance of a home, a territory where one is hunting for food, protecting the pack and raising the pups.
But humans are not like that. They are willing to change one place the call home for another but Jensen soon found out that possessions are far more important than a place to live in. What they value most are the paper strips they call money. Once you have that you can change them in for anything you want. Food, shelter, clothes, cars, everything. And priority number one for them is to own everything.
So now he knows that following Jared around made the other feel like Jensen was trying to steal from him, or intrude in his territory and his mate had reacted in the only way possible. Threat. Had they been wolves, Jared would have snarled threateningly at Jensen.
The only thing he can do right now is wait and watch. That is why he has his job in the store and follows him around in his wolf form after work, once more slinking through back streets and hiding behind garbage heaps and in bushes. Right now, he's safely tucked away in a large lilac bush near the small pond. He watches Jared and the pup and wishes he could run over to them and join his mate. Every day that he has to spend away from him, he hurts. The longing and the pull getting stronger and stronger. Soon he will have to make another attempt of making contact with Jared.
Not right now, but soon.
