Disclaimer: None of the herein presented happenings and events are true. Everything is 100% fiction and that includes the sexuality of the characters. I don’t claim to be in the know about their relations and private affairs, and I don’t make any money with the creation of this story.
The title of the story was taken from the Shadows & Nightmares compilation by Two Steps From Hell.
Author’s Note: This storyline stems from my wish to write some kind of horror/thriller plot. Listening to Two Steps From Hell’s Horror and Thriller albums didn’t help any.

He watches his mate disappear into one of towering houses. Everything is so high and big in the city. It feels like walking through canyon all the time. It's unsettling to say the least. Ducked between two parked cars he keeps an eye on the entrance of the building and waits for something to happen. Maybe he'll get to see him through one of the many windows. But nothing happens and so he settles in for a longer wait.
His feet hurt from runnig on the hard ground that covers almost everything here. He's not used to it. In the woods there are rocks as well but there are also moss and grass covered areas. There are soft fragrant leaves in the time of change and there are soggy and dark shores at the lake and along the creeks. It's exhilarating and freeing to run in the woods but here in the city the high walls all around him feel like they are looming above his head, threatening to close up and block out the sky and the fresh air.
Curling up and tucking his tail against his side he huffs out a breath and eyes the front of the house the human had disappeared into. It had been a long couple of days staying with Jeff, telling him about how he found his mate, killing his pack mate and tracking the the scent trail back to the house. Jeff had promised to help him find out which city the humans had been from in exchange for the agreement to a crash course in being a human.
It had taken almost two days for him to find his way to the city and even longer to track his mate down. With all the stink and exhaust from the cars and long bigger cars and other loud things on the streets, it's almost impossible to track anything by scent alone. And so he had prowled the sidestreets and parks, hiding behind cars and sleeping in stinking heaps of dirt and trash, for that's what Jeff had told him what the things heaped outside were called.
Finally last night he had found traces of the smell clinging to a house. He had camped out in a small dark street close to it and waited. It had taken until today before his plan had worked. His mate looking at him. The smell had beens strong and heady, heavy with musk and sweat. It had sent shivers down his spine and he had fought the whine that had been trying to come out. Suddenly one of the noisy things had come into the street and he had crawled deeper into his hideout, making sure he wouldn't be discovered.
Once his mate had moved away he had crawled back out, slowly and cautiously sneeking up to the end of the street and peering around the corner. Sprinting across the big street he ducked between two parked cars and watched his mate enter the house which carried his scent and settled in to wait.
Later he would have to go and find Samantha, Jeff's friend. She has clothes for him and colorful patterned leaves called money. He will needed if he wants to be Jensen and meet his mate for real.
